More Favorite Quotes

Since Valentine's Day is coming up, I thought I'd share some of my favorite quotes about love.

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength; loving someone deeply gives you courage." -- Lao Tzu

"Love doesn't make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile." -- Franklin P. Jones

"The most precious possession that ever comes to a man in this world is a woman's heart." -- Josiah G. Holland

"You don't love a woman because she is beautiful, but she is beautiful because you love her." -- Anonymous

If you have a favorite quote, please share it!

Women Over 40

Author Carol Burnside forwarded the following article to me. It was written by a man in praise of women over the age of 40. I enjoyed it so much I thought I'd share it here.

As I grow in age, I value women who are over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, "What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think.

If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And it's usually something more interesting.

A woman over 40 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of 40 give a damn what you might think about her or what she's doing.

Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. They always know.

Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off you are a jerk if you are acting like one. You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it's not always reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year-old waitress.

Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?", here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why?

Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!

Initially we thought the author of this fablous piece was 60 Minutes correspondent Andy Rooney. However, according to Snopes.com, Mr. Rooney is not the author, and when asked if he shared the author's affection for older women, his reply was, "Not particularly."

The author is actually Frank Kaiser. And it's obvious to me that Mr. Kaiser is a very smart man!

My Confession

I have a confession to make--I am a former romance snob.

I read my first romance book in high school. It was a 'kidnapped on a pirate ship' story filled with purple prose and a lot of bodice ripping. The hero was (in my opinion) a jerk, and the heroine was (again, in my opinion) not overly intelligent and in severe need of a backbone. I hated the book so much that I REFUSED to read another romance for years, because I assumed they were all the same. Now I’ll admit that assumption was not very smart of me, but hey I was young and stupid at the time.

It was a good 10 years before I read another romance.

My sister gave me a copy of Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts, and she said, "Read it, I promise you'll like it". To which my response was, "Yeah, right." It sat on my end table for months before I eventually picked it up (purely out of boredom). Once I started reading, I couldn't stop.

I tell everyone that "Nora made me a romance reader" and I’m so glad she did.

RoRR Gives HER PROTECTOR a Recommended Read!

Adra at Rites of Romance Reviews gave Her Protector a Recommended Read!

Here’s what she had to say:

I'm sorry I haven't read this book sooner! This story is one of those well-kept secrets that RoRR strives to uncover! Her Protector is a sexy, suspenseful story populated by three-dimensional characters that seem to jump off the pages.

The dialogue kept me smiling. It was swift and witty and smart. Tricia and Clint's reactions to one another, from anger to passion, is believable. Ms. Tyner's writing itself is clean and crisp. She definitely knows how to write. Her Protector is told with wonderful efficiency in setting the scene and in storytelling.

Her Protector has a spot forever on my hard drive!

How great is that? :)

I Accidentally Deleted a Post :(

I cannot believe I did this, but I accidentally deleted the post from January 2nd titled "Favorite Part of the Male Body"

However, being the organized person that I am (*snicker* because there are so many things I'm not organized about), I have a copy of it, and I also have the comments that were posted. So, do not fear ladies. If you left a comment on the original post, then your name is already in the hat for the drawing this month.

If you didn’t leave a comment on the original post, please feel free to add your thoughts on this one. I’d love to hear them!

Original Post:
Ladies, what’s your favorite part of the male body? Or, if you’re a man, your favorite part of the female body. But let’s remember to keep it (relatively) clean, please!

For me it’s biceps and shoulders. And if they happen to have a nice, deep voice too (hey, that’s kind of a body part), I’ll be melting into a puddle.

Comments Posted:
May I stretch it a bit to include mustaches and beards (they are sort of parts of a male body)

The tush....lol and the eyes.

MY FAVORITE IS THEIR BEHIND AND LONG HAIR.

The eyes. And I'm a sucker for dimples. Of course, I do like a nice butt, too. :)

I love a moustache on a man and some gray hairs thrown in their hair.

The behind. I love a nice booty. :)

I love a man's eyes, there is nothing sexier than when a man can hold a really great conversation while looking you in the eye.

I DO need your email address so I can contact you in the event that you win the drawing. If I can backtrack and locate an address for you (for example, an email address listed on blogger), then that’s wonderful. If not, then you need to send your email address, along with a copy of your post, to pamelatyner@hotmail.com The winner will be notified by email and will have one week to reply. If there's no reply after seven days a new winner will be drawn.

The winner will receive an autographed copy of Never Seduce A Scoundrel AND Only A Duke Will Do by Sabrina Jeffries (a fellow North Carolina author). These are the first two books in her School for Heiresses Series.

Do Women Really Get a High From Hearing the Sound of Their Own Voice?

A few weeks ago the DJ’s on a local radio station were discussing the book "The Female Brain" which was written by Dr. Louann Brizendine, a psychologist at the University of California. Let me admit up front that I have not read this book. But apparently, Dr. Brizendine's findings have shown that women talk more than men.

Well, duh. Are there really people in the world that haven’t figured this out yet?

She goes on to say that women talk three times as much as men, they devote more brain cells to talking, and they get a buzz from hearing their own voice, similar to that felt by heroine addicts when they get a high.

The first two parts of that statement I'd pretty much agree with (especially in specific situations) but as for the last part... I don’t personally know what a heroine high feels like, but I can tell you this—speaking merely for myself, I don’t get any kind of high from hearing the sound of my own voice.

In fact, many times when I speak it’s not because I want to, it’s because I have to repeat everything I say two and three times. I live in a house filled with males, who all have perfect hearing, but I swear they only hear about 1/3 of what I say. Hence, the need to constantly repeat myself. Frankly, I get tired of doing it.

Maybe I’m just odd though and other women do get a high from hearing the sound of their own voice, but I find it a little hard to believe. What are your thoughts?

New Year’s Resolutions

This is the time of year when everyone thinks about fresh starts and makes that list of New Year’s Resolutions. Over the course of my lifetime, I’ve made and broken hundreds of them. So I was thinking today about why I’ve failed to keep so many. Here are some of the reasons I came up with:

--the goal was unrealistic
--the goal was too general
--I had no actual plan of how I intended to reach the goal
--I would slip once or twice and then just give up the entire goal
--I simply wasn’t committed enough to reaching the goal

So this year I’m determined to avoid those problems. As of now, I’m still working on my resolutions :) Hey, it takes a lot more effort when you have to put some real thought into them!

I’m interested in hearing your thoughts about New Year’s Resolutions. As much or as little as you’d like to share. For example: Do you make them? On average, how many do you make and then keep/break? Have you made any this year? And if so, feel free to share one or two of them!

Something to Make You Smile

After every Quantas Airlines flight, pilots complete a "gripe sheet" which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight.

Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas' pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers.

Quantas, by the way, is the only major airline that has never had an accident.

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.

P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.

P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on backorder.

P: Autopilot in altitude hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.

P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.

P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.

P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what friction locks are for.

P: IFF inoperative.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.

P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.

P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right and be serious.

P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.

P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed

And the best one for last...

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget.

25 Things About Me

I wasn't sure what to blog about today, so I decided just to share some things about myself via a survey that I received somewhere from someone (can't remember where/from who). So read on...because you know you're curious!

1) Do you think you're always right?
No, but I usually am :)

2) Do you dream at night?
I’m sure I do, but I rarely remember them.

3) Do you talk in your sleep?
I've never had anyone tell me that I do, but my husband does occasionally (he has yet to say anything incriminating) and so do both of our children.

4) Do you daydream?
Yes. Very often.

5) What's your zodiac sign?
Gemini

6) Do you have any siblings?
Yes, I have many. I'm the oldest of seven.

7) Favorite drink?
Sweet tea with lots of sugar.

8) What's your favorite color?
Blue, and my house is filled with it.

9) City, beach or country?
Country

10) Can you sing?
I can, but it’s not a pretty sound.

11) Can you dance?
No, but if I get a couple of beers in me, I think I can.

12) How long do your showers last?
As long as possible. I stay in the shower until ALL the hot water runs out.

13) Ever punch someone in the face?
Unfortunately, yes. I was young (17) and stupid, but I’m no longer either.

14) Have you ever been called a bitch?
Several times, but never by anyone whose opinion mattered to me.

15) Do you believe in love at first sight?
No, but I do believe in lust at first sight.

16) What was the first concert you ever went to?
Bon Jovi

17) First celebrity crush?
Andy Gibb (am I showing my age or what?), and I’m still a sucker for the Aussie accent.

18) First tattoo or piercing?
My ears when I was 18 (I had to wait until I was an adult to have it done). That’s the only piercing I have, and I have no tattoos, although I wouldn’t be completely opposed to the idea of getting a small one. It's just the thought of needles inserting ink underneath my skin that stops me (shudder!).

19) Would you ever have plastic surgery?
If I had enough nerve, I would, but after watching a few of those procedures on TV...

20) What's your worst fear?
That I’ll make some horrible parenting mistake that will screw my kids up for the rest of their lives.

21) Have you ever been suspended or expelled from school?
Yes, but don’t tell my kids. Actually, even if you told them, they’d NEVER believe it.

22) Have you ever done anything illegal?
I’d like to plead the 5th on that question.

23) Who has had the most influence on you?
My grandmother.

24) What's your worst memory?
The phone call I received informing me of my grandmother's (completely unexpected) death.

25) What's your best memory?
Thankfully, I have many of them, but the absolute best would probably be the birth of my oldest son, in a small part because after 21 hours of labor, I was just so relieved it was over with!

I’m Exhausted!

I spent the last few weeks running around like crazy getting everything done for Christmas. Frankly, I’m glad it’s over with :)

All that’s left to do now is wait for the credit card bill (I’m dreading it!) and take down the tree/decorations. I’d like to take the tree down now and be done with it, but my grandmother always claimed it was bad luck to take it down before January 2nd. And since I don’t need any bad luck, mine’s staying up until then!
