Married Couples REQUIRED to Have Kids?
I recently read an article titled "Wash. initiative would require married couples to have kids". It states:
Initiative 957 was filed by the Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance.
Under the initiative, marriage would be limited to men and women who are able to have children. Couples would be required to prove they can have children in order to get a marriage license, and if they did not have children within three years, their marriage would be subject to annulment.
My initial reaction was "what the hell?!"
But, here’s the rest of the story:
This organization hopes to challenge a 2006 Washington Supreme Court’s ruling which states: a "legitimate state interest" allows the Legislature to limit marriage to those couples able to have and raise children together. Because of this "legitimate state interest," it is permissible to bar same-sex couples from legal marriage.
WA-DOMA organizer Gregory Gadow stated: "If same-sex couples should be barred from marriage because they can not have children together, it follows that all couples who cannot or will not have children together should equally be barred from marriage."
Hmmm. Personally, I do think they kind of have a point there. If that’s the basis the state is using for barring same-sex marriages...
But even the WA-DOMA admits that the initiative is absurd and if passed would be struck down as unconstitutional, which would in turn weaken the Supreme Court’s previous ruling.
It’s an interesting approach that this organization is taking, and it will definitely get people talking about the subject.

I Got Tagged
I got tagged. Twice, even. Thanks Randy and Marly :)
I'm to write 10 unusual things or habits about myself. Unfortunately, there's nothing all that unusual about me, so I had to dig deep. But, here we go...
1) My very first memory is standing on the back porch watching my grandmother chop the head off a chicken. Can we say, "She's obviously a country girl!"?
2) My grandfather was a Baptist preacher. He was one of those hellfire-and-brimstone preachers who put the fear of God right in you. He'd roll over in his grave if he knew some of the things I write.
3) Although I haven't shot a basket in well over a decade, I played on the basketball team in high school and was one of the top scorers, which really isn't saying much, because we weren't that good.
4) My senior year in high school I dated a bull rider. He sure was a whole lot of fun :) but not incredibly mature. In his defense, though, most 18-year-old guys are immature to some degree. So, in what was likely an effort to find someone more mature...
5) When I was in college, for about 8/9 months, I dated a man who was 15 years older than me. He was a great guy, but just a little too mature for me. I remember several instances where I accused him of being 'stuffy'.
6) I married the same man twice. The first time we married outside the U.S. and basically had no 'acceptable proof' of the marriage (the license was written in a foreign language and wasn't even notarized), so we figured the easiest thing to do was get remarried. We got married again on the same date one year later.
7) I wash my hands constantly. It all started my freshman year in college when I took a science class (Anatomy and Physiology, I believe--at the time I was majoring in nursing, but that only lasted a year!) and we discussed diseases that are spread by urinary/fecal–oral transmission. YUCK!
8) I talk to myself all the time, and sometimes it's not even 'me' doing the talking...it's my characters running lines for a scene.
9) I struggle with insomnia, which has only been a problem in the last few years. I miss going to bed, sleeping 8 hours straight, and waking up fully refreshed.
10) I own a pair of handcuffs, which probably isn't that unusual--I'm sure many people own some--but it sure did surprise my sister when she stumbled across them one day. Of course, I only purchased them for research purposes ;)

More Favorite Quotes
Since Valentine's Day is coming up, I thought I'd share some of my favorite quotes about love.
"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength; loving someone deeply gives you courage." -- Lao Tzu
"Love doesn't make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile." -- Franklin P. Jones
"The most precious possession that ever comes to a man in this world is a woman's heart." -- Josiah G. Holland
"You don't love a woman because she is beautiful, but she is beautiful because you love her." -- Anonymous

Women Over 40
Author Carol Burnside forwarded the following article to me. It was written by a man in praise of women over the age of 40. I enjoyed it so much I thought I'd share it here.
As I grow in age, I value women who are over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:
A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, "What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think.
If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And it's usually something more interesting.
A woman over 40 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of 40 give a damn what you might think about her or what she's doing.
Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it.
Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated.
Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. They always know.
Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.
Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off you are a jerk if you are acting like one. You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her.
Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it's not always reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year-old waitress.
Ladies, I apologize.
For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?", here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why?
Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!
Initially we thought the author of this fablous piece was 60 Minutes correspondent Andy Rooney. However, according to Snopes.com, Mr. Rooney is not the author, and when asked if he shared the author's affection for older women, his reply was, "Not particularly."
The author is actually Frank Kaiser. And it's obvious to me that Mr. Kaiser is a very smart man!

My Confession
I have a confession to make--I am a former romance snob.
I read my first romance book in high school. It was a 'kidnapped on a pirate ship' story filled with purple prose and a lot of bodice ripping. The hero was (in my opinion) a jerk, and the heroine was (again, in my opinion) not overly intelligent and in severe need of a backbone. I hated the book so much that I REFUSED to read another romance for years, because I assumed they were all the same. Now I’ll admit that assumption was not very smart of me, but hey I was young and stupid at the time.
It was a good 10 years before I read another romance.
My sister gave me a copy of Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts, and she said, "Read it, I promise you'll like it". To which my response was, "Yeah, right." It sat on my end table for months before I eventually picked it up (purely out of boredom). Once I started reading, I couldn't stop.
I tell everyone that "Nora made me a romance reader" and I’m so glad she did.

RoRR Gives HER PROTECTOR a Recommended Read!

Adra at Rites of Romance Reviews gave Her Protector a Recommended Read!
Here’s what she had to say:
I'm sorry I haven't read this book sooner! This story is one of those well-kept secrets that RoRR strives to uncover! Her Protector is a sexy, suspenseful story populated by three-dimensional characters that seem to jump off the pages.
The dialogue kept me smiling. It was swift and witty and smart. Tricia and Clint's reactions to one another, from anger to passion, is believable. Ms. Tyner's writing itself is clean and crisp. She definitely knows how to write. Her Protector is told with wonderful efficiency in setting the scene and in storytelling.
Her Protector has a spot forever on my hard drive!
How great is that? :)

I Accidentally Deleted a Post :(
However, being the organized person that I am (*snicker* because there are so many things I'm not organized about), I have a copy of it, and I also have the comments that were posted. So, do not fear ladies. If you left a comment on the original post, then your name is already in the hat for the drawing this month.
If you didn’t leave a comment on the original post, please feel free to add your thoughts on this one. I’d love to hear them!
Original Post:
Ladies, what’s your favorite part of the male body? Or, if you’re a man, your favorite part of the female body. But let’s remember to keep it (relatively) clean, please!
For me it’s biceps and shoulders. And if they happen to have a nice, deep voice too (hey, that’s kind of a body part), I’ll be melting into a puddle.
Comments Posted:
May I stretch it a bit to include mustaches and beards (they are sort of parts of a male body)
The tush....lol and the eyes.
MY FAVORITE IS THEIR BEHIND AND LONG HAIR.
The eyes. And I'm a sucker for dimples. Of course, I do like a nice butt, too. :)
I love a moustache on a man and some gray hairs thrown in their hair.
The behind. I love a nice booty. :)
I love a man's eyes, there is nothing sexier than when a man can hold a really great conversation while looking you in the eye.
