What word(s) in the title of a book will entice you to check out the book further? And, what word(s) will utterly fail to entice you?
For me:
Always entice: cowboy :)
Fails to entice: sheik

Where Would You Want to Time Travel To?
If you were able to time travel, where would you want to go?
Would you travel to the future? If so, how far into the future?
Or would you travel to the past? If so, what time period would you want to visit? The Middle Ages, the Renaissance, Colonial times, the Roaring Twenties, etc? Would you want to witness a historical event or meet a specific person?

Movies You Didn’t Think You’d Like, but You Did
Have you ever seen a movie that you didn’t think you’d like, but you ending up loving it? That’s happened to me a few times.
The most recent examples:
Million Dollar Baby
There are a lot of people that love the sport of boxing, but I’m not one of them. I can’t understand why any person would want to box or why anyone would pay to watch it. And as much as I don’t understand why men box, I certainly don’t understand why women box. Because I’m not a fan of the sport, I had no interest in seeing this movie. But, I was traveling, stuck in a hotel, bored, and the movie was on HBO, so I watched it. I was amazed to discover that I loved it. It was a very touching movie.
Brokeback Mountain
While I have no problem at all with gay men, I don’t particularly want to watch two men be intimate with each other (although I understand there are many women that would find that enjoyable). When this movie was being promoted what I saw the most often was 'the kiss' scene, which just solidified my belief that it wouldn’t be a movie I’d enjoy (even though I’m a huge Heath Ledger fan). Then I started reading reviews, and so many people raved about the movie that I broke down and saw it. It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Yes, there was a kiss scene and there was a 'passion in the tent' scene, but the movie wasn’t about sex, it was about love. It was about two people who loved each other and had to hide it. It was about the effect that this had on them as well as others in their lives. It was heartbreaking.
If you haven’t seen these movies, I highly recommend them.

Fly in the Food at a Restaurant
This morning, I went through the drive-through of a fast-food restaurant to get breakfast for me and the kids. I won’t mention the name of the restaurant, but it’s a very popular restaurant with chains all over the U.S.
Son #2 ordered a bacon and egg biscuit. However, the bacon was crisp--okay, actually it was boarding on burnt--so he opened the sandwich to take it off and found...a dead fly.
So disgusting. And all I can think about is the fact that if he hadn’t opened that sandwich, he would have eaten that thing.
I guess I need to get up in time to make breakfast for the family. At least then I’ll know the food is insect free.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month/Book Proceeds to Benefit Battered Woman's Shelter
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Click HERE to read more about it. Domestic violence is an issue that deserves all the attention it can get!
Therefore, it’s most appropriate that an announcement was made this month that publisher Freya’s Bower will be releasing an anthology in February 2007 entitled DREAMS AND DESIRES, and all net proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to a battered woman’s shelter.
The contributing authors include: Sasha White, Susan Lyons, Gemma Halliday, Lois Winston, Candace Havens, Richelle Mead, Jackie Kessler, Jenna Bayley-Burke, Zinna Hope, Faith Bicknell-Brown, H.A. Fowler, Bebe Thomas, Amanda Brice. (disclaimer--that may not be a complete list of authors)

Pet Peeves
Last night my family went to the NC State Fair to see Chris Cagle in concert. It was a wonderful concert :)
After the concert I stopped off at the ladies room, and as usual when I’m at a public restroom, I had to restrain myself from yelling, "Come back here and wash your hands!" at those people that did their business and then just walked straight out the door. Have they never heard of germs?
After leaving the restroom, we headed on down the fairway and I saw one of the young ladies who had left without washing her hands (I recognized her by her very distinctive hairstyle), eating a funnel cake...an activity that required using her hands...hands that not been washed after she'd used the bathroom. YUCK!
Not washing your hands after using the bathroom is one of my pet peeves. I hate to see someone do it.
What are some of your pet peeves?
